What’s it all about?
The iconic Melbourne tram, with it’s green and yellow hues, has become a symbol of this city and oh boy do we miss them! Waiting for them to arrive, sitting in them and also complaining that they’re running late… Let’s pay homage to our beautiful and humble tram by making our own at home out of paper!
Paper craft or building elaborate paper models has become a popular pastime. These days it involves cutting and assembling large paper models out of geometric patterns. Join Marloes in exploring the unique craft of pop-ups and origami. Come and learn some amazing things you can create with a single sheet of paper!
Come dive into the 3D world of pop-ups and origami architecture to discover delicate sculptural forms that play with light and dimensions.
What will we cover?
We will:
- Be guided through the process of cutting and arranging your template
- Learn how to glue and assemble your paper tram
- Share some inspirations for other paper models you can make at home
- We’ll all have a little Melbourne tram to keep us company during these times
Please note you will have to print the pattern at home before the class (we will email you the file a couple of days earlier).
What will you need?
- The provided template printed onto something thick enough to hold its form but thin enough to cut easily by hand eg: watercolour paper or thin card stock (approx 200gsm).
- A craft knife
- Cutting surface such as a cutting mat or some cardboard to protect your table
- Sharp pencils eg. HB, 2H or similar (and a pencil sharpener)
- A ruler
- Something sticky such as glue, glue stick or double sided tape
- Some tape eg. cello or masking tape
Who will be teaching?
Artist Marloes Bakker-Marsden teaches a variety of mediums at community centres, retirement communities and other locations, including in her own studio space. She enjoys sharing her skills and passions with others in a light hearted and fun way that makes the experience totally enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved.
