What’s it all about?
Who else can’t wait to go back brunching? Maria spends her mornings dreaming of smashed avo on toast maybe topped with some marinated goats cheese, or baked eggs with sourdough (that you didn’t have to bake yourself). Couple that with a divine croissant, a green smoothie, an amazing coffee and a view of the river or a park.
In this class, we will pay tribute to the smashed avocado toast by crocheting one! You’ll be learning Amigurumi – the Japanese art of crocheting stuffed yarn creatures of all kinds. We’ll get started with the toast, then the smashed avo and finally a cute kawaii face.
With all the money you’ll save crocheting smashed avos on toast, we’ll soon be able to buy houses and stuff … or at least have a little friend to take with us when cafes reopen.
What will we cover?
Basic knowledge of crochet required, but we will go through the stitches if you haven’t crocheted in a while.
In this class, we’ll learn:
- How to read a pattern and get started
- Key considerations for amigurumi
- How to get started on our smashed avo toast amigurumi
- The steps to continue and finish on your own
- Tips and tricks for crocheting
You should already know how to chain and single crochet.
We will learn increasing and decreasing with sc2tog stitch.
What will you need?
- Any hook! Maria uses a 4.5mm but you can use a smaller or larger tram and make your toast bigger.
- Yarns to match your hook size. Maria uses 8ply in beige, toast, dark green and lime colours.
- Embroidery floss (or more yarn) in black and pink
- Scissors
- Tapestry (or any large) needle
Who will be teaching?
Maria Yebra has crafted many weird and wonderful things since getting hooked on crochet, and she shows no signs of stopping! In addition to crochet and crafting, she also has a passion for cooking and baking, light painting, Spanish shoes and running Laneway Learning.
