What’s it all about?

Step into the beauty of Chinese dance through movement, rhythm, and cultural expression. This beginner-friendly workshop offers an introduction to the elegance, flow, and storytelling qualities of Chinese dance in a welcoming and relaxed environment.

Chinese dance combines expressive gestures, flowing movement, musicality, and graceful coordination. Whether you’re completely new to dance or simply curious to try something different, this class invites you to explore movement creatively while connecting with a rich artistic tradition.

What will we cover?

In this workshop we’ll explore foundational Chinese dance movement through guided exercises and a simple choreographed phrase. We’ll cover:

  • basic posture, alignment and movement quality in Chinese dance

  • expressive hand and arm gestures

  • flowing upper body movement and coordination

  • rhythm, musicality and movement expression

  • a short beginner combination inspired by traditional and contemporary Chinese dance

We’ll also touch on how Chinese dance uses movement to communicate feeling, storytelling, and presence. The class is designed to be playful, accessible, and enjoyable for beginners.
