Does “sc 6 in MR, (slst, ch3, dc in same st, ch3)6” fill you with confusion? Would you rather be able to visualise the flower you’re crocheting?

Crochet charts let you see the shape of what you’re crocheting, show you where to put your stitches, and allows you to quickly refer to the pattern without having to flip through pages upon pages of instructions.

Crochet charts can seem intimidating, but once you get the hang of it you unlock being able to read patterns without relying on the text, and you’ll even be able to read patterns from other languages if they have a chart!

What will we cover?

  • breaking down the anatomy of common crochet stitches using US terms (which most people in Australia learn)

  • showing how crochet charts symbols are made to resemble their stitches

  • reading a chart to crochet a flower using slipstitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet

To get more benefit from the class, its recommended you at least know how to hold a crochet hook and yarn with tension, and know how to do a single crochet stitch.

You may bring your own hook and yarn if you have the following, or purchase a ticket that includes materials:

-aran or worsted weight/ weight 4 yarn
-hook between 4mm-6mm

We will be examining the details of our crochet stitches. If you struggle with seeing small details, it’s recommended to wear your glasses and/or bring a magnifying glass.
