Want to write a memoir? Or dreamed of getting that juicy story in your head onto paper, but don’t know where to start? Start here in this practical workshop. We’ll be hitting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) during four different timed exercises to get you writing creatively.

This class is for beginners and people wanting to get back into their writing. The goal of this class is for you to leave feeling confident, so there will be chances to ask questions and hear about other people’s experience during this interactive class. We’ll also talk about how these four exercises are the essential ingredients for creative consistency, and how to write through resistance.

What will we cover?

Getting started by simply sitting down and getting some words down, even if they’re rough, is the best way to outrun resistance to writing. So is practice. That’s what we’ll be doing in this class. Before practicing the timed writing exercises, we’ll briefly talk about each: clearing-the-mind writing, observational and sensory writing, idea-organising writing, and idea-generating writing.

Sitting together and writing is a powerful way to brush past self-consciousness and sit with the uncomfortableness that can accompany getting back to the page. There will be lots of help, lots of prompts to choose from, a supportive, calm group of people to write with, and opportunities to write whatever you want to write.
