What’s it all about?
This class will explore the idea that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, and be lead by a man who tries to live what he preaches.
d’Arcy Lunn will talk about his own project ‘Happy, simply’, while also asking participants to comment and participate along the way. ‘Happy, simply’ is a lifestyle model and education project with the promotion of simplicity, sustainability and self-sufficiency. It is about being more connected – to people and places, producing a ‘richer’ life for individuals, the community and globally, and has lead d’Arcy to build his own ‘tiny house’ for less than $10,000.
What will we cover?
- The components and a holistic approach to a happy, simple life – where d’Arcy’s ideas came from and the practical application of simplicity – where simplicity is the ultimate sophistication
- The Happy, simply home – how to build a 10m2 home in 2 weeks and for under $10,000Attention to: design, materials, building and resource consent, water capture, renewable energy, bio-compostable toilet, edible garden, transport and community participation
- Take away ideas and the practical application of simplistic, self-sufficient and sustainable living practices and ideas – is a matter of laying it all out on the table for people to choose, adapt and modify what is useful and practical to them
Who will be teaching?
d’Arcy Lunn is fanatical about simple living. ‘Happy, simply’ came after 12 years and 58 countries of learning and experiencing that less can be more (when you get to choose it). For him this project and these workshops are about how he can implement the learning he has received from his experiences with the world’s poorest and apply them in the developed world, where we can choose sustainability, self-sufficiency and simplicity and be richer for it. By day d’Arcy works as an educator and advocate in the aid and development sector.
