Editing is a daunting task for most writers. But we all must face the music eventually.
Learn to intentionally and meaningfully cull the parts of your writing that don’t move your story along or strengthen the impact of its core themes.
What will we cover?
Focusing on short stories, you will be equipped with three editing techniques: structural, paragraph, and line editing.
Each serves its own purpose in the creative writing process, and will allow you to detect plot holes, character inconsistencies, as well as redundant or superfluous language, exposition or information (unless, of course, that’s your intention).
Sometimes, the work just needs to be intentionally restructured for it to land the way you mean.
Materials (for participants):
– Your writing device, be it a laptop or a book and pen.
– A piece of fiction (preferably a short story) that has been collecting dust. You can bring other creative work, but my speciality is short stories.
– A curious and open mind.
