What’s it all about?
What better way to start the week than with a good massage? In this class, we will have fun learning both the theory and practice of massage, covering a range of easy methods that will put a smile on anyone’s face. We will start at the extremities, with the hands, feet and calves, before moving onto the shoulders if we have time. Either way, you are bound to go home with a bunch of techniques that you will be able to practice on yourselves and (lucky) others.
What will we cover?
The science and the art. The theory and the practice. In this class, we will cover the fundamentals of massage, why it is a good thing and why we should all be doing it to ourselves more often. We will start with some very basic techniques that we will then practise on ourselves in the class.
As the session progresses, we will learn all the right buttons to press on the hands, feet and calves in order to provide a dose of instant relaxation after a long day in the office or a bit of rough and tumble on the sports field. Finally, we will wrap up by discussing what tools, equipment and types of oil you should look for in order to develop your new found skills.
Disclaimer: Don’t be scared – in the class, no one will be forced to get close to anyone they don’t already know! You will be able to practice all the techniques we cover on yourself (though if you do bring a friend, you might both have more fun!).
Who will be teaching?
Foong Hoh Yun has been a martial arts practitioner and instructor for nearly 15 years, specialising in Goju-Ryu style karate. Over the course of this career, he has has come to learn many self-massage techniques that aid in healing and pain relief. During the day, Foong is a telecommunications engineer, having worked in South East Asia before moving to Melbourne.
