What’s it all about?

Find  yourself tapping away on the car steering wheel or the dinner table? Had a stressful day at work and feel the need to release the tension in a tactile way? Discover the cathartic nature of hitting a drum and connecting with others through shared rhythm. Learn the basics of the djembe and explore the power of music in community. So simple, yet so very satisfying!

What will we cover?

In this class we will learn

  • A short history of the use of drumming and percussion.
  • How to hold and hit a djembe (West African drum)
  •  How to play a few different rhythms, both with the djembe and some other percussive equipment
  •  Some body percussion (our bodies are great instant instruments!)

Emily Walter is the owner and workshop facilitator at BoomShop Drumming.

She travelled to West Africa in 2015 and participated in a 6 week drumming and dance tour, learning drumming from the masters through Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Music is her ultimate passion and drumming is something she has done ever since she was little and her grandmother told her off for tapping the dinner table while waiting for her meal.

She believes drumming in some form is for everyone as we all have a heartbeat and all innately feel rhythm. You can connect with her on Facebook
