Mental Health Week with City Libraries 2018

Laneway Learning is excited to collaborate again with the City of Melbourne and City Libraries, to offer four free classes during Mental Health Week!

Mental Health Week aims to activate, educate and engage Victorians about mental health, through a week of interactive events across the state, including an official launch, community festivals, art exhibitions, music, theatre and seminars.” – Mental Health Foundation Australia

All classes happen at Kathleen Syme Library, 251 Faraday Street, Carlton at 6:15-7:30pm. See below for more information about the workshops and remember to book as the spots are limited

If you answered ‘Yes!’ to the above, then Goal-setting 101 is for you. This class is about bringing goal-setting back to basics—because a good goal, like anything, needs to have a good foundation.

Who will be teaching?

Tanya is a certified life coach who works with people who are tired of the status quo, and want to live an unconventional life. She helps them gain the clarity and confidence they need to go out and create a life they love. After stepping away from a 9 to 5 job, Tanya spent time in South America and Europe as a digital nomad. These days she divides her time between the bustle of the city and the chilled vibes of the coast.

You’re not alone, many of us struggle to remember a new person’s name 5 minutes after being introduced, or forget where we left our keys and what we were supposed to buy from the shop. But we also have that one friend who never forgets a face! And a few special people have phenomenal memories that seem to know no bounds.

We’re going to learn from the great brains and discover how to enhance our memory using simple techniques..

Who will be teaching?

Ivan has been interested in all things to do with the mind for as long as he can remember! While helping clients from all walks of life overcome anxiety and phobias, the art of memory caught his attention. Over the last ten years, he has traveled the world to learn more about hypnosis, psychology, and coaching. Now he will be sharing what he has learnt about how to improve your memory.

Exercise can improve your brain in many ways, from improving your mental health to helping you focus better while you study. We know that endorphins from exercise have a positive effect on the brain. Exercise has many benefits for the brain from improving mental health to increasing focus for study and other activites.

Who will be teaching?

Jennifer Smallridge is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, which means that she is fortunate enough to help people get active every day. She lectures in the fields of Human Anatomy and Exercise Science. After working across several settings including hospitals, private practice and the insurance sector, she has come to particularly love helping people with exercising for their mood and mind benefits.

Deep connection through laughter, play and meditation

Laughter yoga is an aerobic exercise using voluntary and intentional laughing as a process to clear stale air from the body. When practised in a group setting, laughter is a powerful way to break down barriers and create connections..

Who will be teaching?

Elva Zhang is the founder of Peace Lab, which was created to provide a new way to cultivate well-being, a positive mindset and build stronger connections. Originally from China, Elva came to study in Australia as an international student after completing high school. She is a lawyer by profession, who used to be SO serious! Peace Lab was therefore born out of her own experiences dealing with stress, anxiety and negative self-talk.
