Today, 9 September is R U OK? Day here in Australia. This fantastic initiative encourages and empowers us (with lots of useful resources) to ask our friends, family and community if they are doing OK and to start conversations about mental health.
This year’s spot-on theme is: Are you “really” OK? Ask them today because in all honesty, most of us have developed an answering machine style reply to those questions: “yes, all good, I’m OK, this is fine, leave a message”… but safe to say most of us aren’t.
What I particularly loved about this day when I first heard about it was its simplicity, coupled with the very needed resources to ask a question like this with intention and then follow up. How do you ask when you are depleted? When to ask? How to follow up? What next? These four steps below are the best way to start.
I wish I could personally ask every single one of you, listen to you… our teachers and attendees, our community. Are we all OK? You can always email me at maria(at)lanewaylearning.com and I WILL listen.
If you are really struggling or know someone who is, I invite you to try one of our community classes. There are well-researched benefits to learning together in a community setting. Well, this is why we do what we do! So, if you are finding things tough right now, please join us for a class on us. We have 20 free spaces to offer up to members of our community who are in need right now (one class per person).
