Take a midday Brain Break! Taking a creative break in the middle of your work day will lift your spirits and re-invigorate your focus and concentration – it’s a bit like a computer refresh but for your mind!
Curious to try a DIY printmaking technique with easily accessible material? In this class we will learn how to turn objects from your house into stamps and how to creates beautiful prints from it. Go on a scavenger hunt around your house to find objects you think you can print with, and we’ll test them out during the class!
What will we cover?
In this online class we will cover the basic of relief printmaking technique through potato-stamps. Emilie will demonstrate a couple of carving technique and how to design and compose your image. We’ll try out other vegetable for printing as well and try out easy hand-made printing technique.
What will you need?
- Paper – Any thick paper will do.
- Pencil
- Box-cutter, blade, knife or any cutting tool
- Brushes and/or sponges
- A plate for mixing the colours
- Water based paint, ideally gouache
Idea of objects to print with:
- Empty toilet paper rolls
- Bubble wrap, glad wrap
- Erasers, rubbers, elastic bands
- Twine, wool, string: wrapped it around a bloc
- sponges
- cardboard
- fruits and vegetable (look up our potato stamps class for more!)
Who will be teaching?
Emilie is a Melbourne based artist and maker, currently finishing her PhD at the Victorian College of the Arts. She moved from France in 2014 and has been developing her art practice since, working with a range of media, from video to printmaking, 3D printing and a variety of paint mediums. Emilie is also a comic book artists. Her illustration has been published by the Lifted Brow, and she self-published her first graphic novel in 2018 with Tree Paper Comics in Melbourne.
