What’s it all about?

Find it hard to put pen to paper? Do you fear the tyranny of the blank page? Whether you are writing a paragraph or a thesis, all writing has these things in common – you need to communicate with your audience, and say what you need to say.

What will we cover?

In the first section of the class we will talk about key aspects of writing – such as the audience, clarity and brevity, and organizing your argument. Then it’s over to you to start writing! You will write one long and one short piece of writing in this class. It will be a highly interactive session where you will also get the chance to read out your work aloud and to peer review the work of others. Come along prepared to write, to share, to listen and to provide feedback.

Who will be teaching?

Simone Alesich has written for the Prime Minister, Defence Minister and many other senior government officials. Writing for these audiences has required her to hone her skills in writing quickly and clearly. A PhD graduate, she has also written for academic audiences, and written at great length, as well as presenting papers at conferences and seminars.
