Laneway Learning and artist Emilie Walsh have partnered to run Glow Comics Trails: an art trail by Melbourne comics artists featuring glow-in-the-dark easter eggs for you to find!

As part of the event, Laneway Learning is offering the selected artists an opportunity to run a beginner workshop with us! A special opportunity to meet Melbourne comics artists and have them share their creative journey with you!

Illustrating Native Australian Wildlife

From screeching cockatoos to shy ringtail possums, wildlife is all around us. In this class we’ll reconnect with Melbourne’s wildest inhabitants by learning how to draw them.

We will start by gathering visual references, loosen up our hands with some quick sketches, and warm up with a few observation exercises.

Then we’ll use watercolour to illustrate our favourite Melbourne critters, picking up plenty of new skills and techniques along the way!

All materials provided, and no experience necessary! Just come and have a great time.

Who will be teaching?

At age four, Amandine Thomas announced to a bewildered family that she would become a children’s book illustrator, and grew up
writing short stories that she illustrated and compiled in crooked,
clumsily stapled booklets.

Fast forward to present-day, and not much has changed: through empowering stories illustrated in a playful and lively style, she explores the themes she is passionate about, such as our environment – and the many ways in which it can inspire and amaze us – or the connections we foster with others, with ourselves and with the world around us
