What’s it all about?

You are funny. You are also ridiculous. Improv will help you learn that in a goofy, fun, and safe way.

Imagine creating a scene entirely on the spot in front of laughing audience. When you take away scripts, the stakes change. All that matters is what your friend on stage just said. It sounds scary… because it is! It is also liberating. Instead of memorising lines, blocking, and technical cues, you listen, you acknowledge what you are given, and you give something back. That’s true whether you are playing three-minute theatre sports games or improvising an hour-long play.

Come to laugh, make friends, and learn about a delightful facet of Melbourne’s art scene.

What will we cover?

Improvised comedy is a first morsel of a comedic feast that awaits you. When we play, we will exercise skills like listening, collaboration, and focus. We will also laugh like fools.

While the class is a small sample of what improvisation has to offer, you will leave the workshop with an information pack filled with links to great improv resources as well as local opportunities to watch and play. No theatrical or comedic experience required.
