Make Your Own Silver Ring with Qing (7:45pm)

Please note:

This is a two-week class occurring on two consecutive weeks (1st session 15th April and 2nd session on the 22nd April, fee covers both). Please come at the same time in the second week as you do in the first.

The price of silver is NOT included, because it will vary depending on the size of the ring (and the number of rings) you make. Silver costs are based on the size and weight of the finished item and can range between a few dollars to hundreds, this will be explained in the class and you will have full control over this cost in class

Ever wanted to learn to make your own silver jewellery? Learn the fundamentals of the wax casting process as well as how to outsource to jewellery businesses in order to create your own unique jewellery pieces.

We will be introduced to the basics of wax working techniques, as well as very simple metal finishing processes in order to be able to create our very own silver rings.

What we will cover?

The class will take place over two weeks. In the first class we will learn:

  • What casting is
  • How to outsource to jewellery businesses
  • About different waxes
  • How to make a ring
  • How to clean up and finish cast pieces

Then in the second week we will take our freshly cast pieces and learn:

  • Different tools to use for polishing metal
  • Basic hand finish for silver

If you would like to polish your silver with power tools like a dremel, please bring a photo of your tools to the first class. We will be able to tell you if this is suitable to be used for metal polish in the second class.

Who will be teaching? 

Qing (she/her) is one of our main Laneway Learning teachers who has been running workshops with us for over 7 years! Qing has many skills, loves and passions! She is our queen of cooking, craft and jewelry making!

She has always loved cooking for her family using traditional methods that have been passed on from her parents. 

Some of her talents include dressmaking and embroidery. We <3 u Qing!
