What’s it all about?
Today we live in a society obsessed with social media, instant messaging and overwhelmed by digital content. In comparison, the art of writing letters – with pen and paper – might seem dated and inefficient.
Yet there is something so very special about receiving a letter, especially when it comes from someone important in your life. It’s a gift of their time, deliberate intent to give you the joy of opening the envelope to discover the mysterious message inside. As you read the letter, you can take delight in the feel of the paper, appreciate the pigment of the ink and the deeply unique strokes of the handwriting.
Letter-writing is an art and a feeling which cannot be replaced by a culture of scrolling, swiping and likes. It’s an experience much more contained and unique for the writer, as it is for the intended reader.
Perhaps letters are needed now more than ever to help us better understand ourselves and reconnect with people. Ultimately, the written word still retains its power and provides the human touch in a tech-driven and crazy world.
