What’s it all about?

Infinity. It’s pretty big. Really big. Even that’s a bit of an understatement.

Buzz Lightyear famously wanted to go beyond infinity, but is that even possible? What does infinity mean, and is there anything bigger than it? Wouldn’t something bigger than infinity just be infinity as well?

What will we cover?

From the the philosophers of Ancient Greece, up to the mathematicians of the last few centuries, we’ll follow the concept of infinity through the ages. On our way we’ll twist our brains in knots thinking about the paradoxes and general craziness of it all.

And we’ll finish up with Georg Cantor, certainly the most important person in humanity’s understanding of infinity. His ideas were both revolutionary and surprisingly simple to grasp!

Who will be teaching?

Michael Patterson is one of the Laneway Learning Melbourne team, and graduated from the University of Melbourne with Mechanical Engineering and Science degrees. He is also a published composer, and has had works performed by the Melbourne, Adelaide and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. If you ask him about ocelots, he’ll tell you they’re out to get us.
