The Great Museums Come to You

There are too many museums in the world to realistically visit them all. Even finding the time (and money) to see the greatest ones is a challenge. But Google has been hard at work trying to bring many museums to you, allowing you to visit collections and exhibits from home.

In their new Cultural Institute project, some of the world’s greatest museums are letting you have a glimpse of the collections, including The National Gallery, LondonThe Museum of Modern Art, New York and Musée d’Orsay, Paris. Many of the artworks are photographed in such high resolution you can zoom in to see the finest details of the brush strokes, as in Van Gogh’s The Starry Night.

You can visit The Palace of Versailles, the Daigo-ji Temple in Kyoto, and the Grand Canyon. You can see exhibits about the life of Nelson Mandela, Hiroshima, and the codebreaking work done during the two World Wars at Bletchley Park.

There are even contributions from Australia, including rock art from the PERAHU at Griffith University, and Melbourne’s own NGV.
