What’s it all about?
Ever been curious about the inner workings of the United Nations? The Security Council is in the news all the time, what does it actually do? Or why doesn’t it do more? What about the General Assembly? How much power does the U.N. really have, anyway? If you’ve ever wondered how the U.N. works, how much influence it has or what it does, then this is the class for you.
What will we cover?
This class will cover the basics of the U.N. structure. We’ll look at the roles of the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Secretariat, and touch on the International Court of Justice and the Economic and Social Council. We’ll consider what these organisations do, what their limitations are and how politics influences what actions are taken. We may be acting out some country roles, so if you’re keen, bring your acting prowess!
Who will be teaching?
Valeria Coscini has a Masters degree in International and Comparative Law from Monash University and a (nerdy) passion for all things related to international law. When she’s not tracking down the latest Security Council Resolution she’s probably out writing or hiking somewhere.
