What’s it all about?

So, you’ve played chess before (prerequisite) and want to be better? You know how to play but don’t know how to win? You don’t have an ace up your sleeve (wrong game anyway) and you can’t work out how others always seem to control the game. I’ll show you some moves for your blue suede shoes… Or whichever shoes you like. If you don’t really have any strategy, I’ll teach you some. It’s a beginner strategy class.

What will we cover?

We’ll learn a little history on chess.

Rules you probably didn’t know.

Approximate value of pieces, opening, middle and end game play.

Castling – properly, promotion, sacrifice, fork, good and bad bishops, backwards pawn.

And more if there is time.

Who will be teaching?

Alisdair, just a chess amateur who found a chess friend at his work years ago and they both had lots of free time on night shift.
