What’s it all about?

Ever wondered how the Arkham Asylum got its name or the Necronomicon? Well, HP Lovecraft has the answer.

Mostly ignored in his short and troubled life, HP Lovecraft and his Gothic cosmic mythos has since influenced many aspects of modern culture including Horror, comics, games, music and films from Stephen King and Batman to Cabin in the Woods and Game of Thrones. Learn more about his life, ideas and concepts that continue to haunt us, including imagery, film clips, readings and enough spine chilling tales to have you dashing to the bar for a stiff drink.

What will we cover?

The class will begin with an intro to HP Lovecraft and his key themes. We will then look in more detail at his influence today, spotting these themes in modern film and books and games. Then finally, we will dim the lights and listen as Chris reads a particularly scary passage from one of Lovecraft’s stories.
