What’s it all about?
Are you ruled by your head or your heart…or both? The idea of Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been around for over twenty years now, but what does it actually mean?
Peter McKay will introduce you to the basic concepts of EI and discuss how it relates to your everyday life, your relationships and even the decisions you make. Come along to this informal and collaborative exploration of a topic that is a part of your every waking (and perhaps, sleeping) hour.
What will we cover?
This relaxed session will begin with a brief history of the term “Emotional Intelligence” to establish context before we explore our own experiences of EI via a number of fun activities. The Five EI Competencies will then be explained and related to your experiences and will inform the next section: “How EI relates to everyday life” and some information on how EI is being fostered in schools. We will then wrap up by covering any specific questions you may have.
This is a foundational level session so no prior knowledge of EI is required.
Who will be teaching?
Peter McKay is a Somatic Psychotherapist with a private practice in the CBD, who has a keen interest in anything related to the Human Condition. In addition to seeing private clients he also co-facilitates workshops on emotionally intelligent parenting and social and emotional learning for children.
