What’s it all about?
If reality TV has taught us anything, it’s that cooking food gives life meaning. But can it explain the entire universe? In this class we will use food and cooking as a simple metaphor for the history of the universe: and what a delicious history it is!
What will we cover?
If you’ve always been scared of physics and maths and would rather have a nice snack instead, this class is for you. Find out how rising cake and popping popcorn are like expanding space, cosmological topics such as dark matter and dark energy will be discussed, as well as galactic filaments and cosmic microwave background radiation.
You will be educated, and you will be fed. What more could you ask for?
Who will be teaching?
Chris Lassig is a former theoretical particle physicist who once wrote a paper called ‘Phenomenology of the two Higgs doublet sector of a quark-lepton symmetric model’. Since then he’s also learnt to speak English and is currently a presenter on the program Lost in Science, on 3CR community radio.
