What’s it all about?

Ever wondered about penguins? Where did they come from, why don’t they fly, and where do they live? Well, aside from the popular penguin colony down at Phillip Island, did you know there are actually penguins living right here in Melbourne?

There are over 1300 penguins living in St Kilda, and they have a much better lifestyle living here than down at Phillip Island. In this class we will explain why penguins live here, what they do day-to-day and where exactly you can see them.

What will we cover?

We will start off at Shebeen where we will tell you all about the penguins, their lifestyle and supply you with plenty of interesting facts with which to impress your friends. For example, did you know that penguins have same sex couples?

This will lead us nicely into the second half of this exploratory class where we will make our excursion by tram to one of Melbourne’s most surprising habitats. Learn how the Olympic Games is responsible for a colony which suits the inner city penguin.

You’ll need warm clothing, wet weather things, a camera (with a no flash option) and most important of all – a sense of adventure!

Who will be teaching?

Your teacher for this class is Alisdair who used to be a volunteer penguin guide down in St Kilda. He is looking forward to sharing his knowledge with you all.
