If you’ve felt like you were born with two left feet, or simply want to learn some basics and fundamentals of dance, here’s your chance!

This class is for people who don’t quite feel comfortable diving into drop in dance classes, and to learn basic yet essential techniques.

This is for all of you who hide in the back and sway from side to side at the club, or for those wanting to get comfortable attending casual dance classes.

This event will be half social chats with a bunch of like minded queer people and half fun, educational and interactive workshop.

All workshops are taught by queers, for queers.

What will we cover?

In this workshop we will:

  • Learn about finding your own unique groove
  • Basic commercial/street styles
  • Cover technique as well as how to find rhythm and flow.
  • Elements and accents to look for in tracks, so that if you’re improvising you know what to hit!

This class is about getting comfortable with movement so you can tear up any dance floor- with style!

We’ll then tie all of this into a basic routine at the end of class.

    Who will be Facilitating?

Sham (she/her/they) is a queer performance artist, creator and theatre maker. Her foundations began with 15 years of RAD ballet training, and over the years picked up everything from contemporary and jazz, to hip hop, dancehall and vogue.

She has sashayed across Australia as well as overseas, in small cabaret venues to large elaborate stages.

When not performing, she teaches dance, barre, and spin classes. Her passion for movement led her to teaching on the side, and she has facilitated workshops for movers young and old; no matter what skill level.

She invites her students to always get creative and push boundaries, and supports them through a safe and fun environment!
