What’s it all about?

Flamenco is an expressive and exciting dance form from Andalucia in the south of Spain. Its origins are mysterious, combining influences that include Gypsy, Moorish, Jewish, Byzantine and of course Spanish.

Its characteristics include sinuous arm movements, a proud posture and rhythmic hand clapping and foot stamping.

What will we cover?

Learn the basic techniques to get you started in Flamenco. Flamenco is passionate but there is a lot of technique involved as well. We will cover how to clap, some basic footwork patterns, posture, arms and hands. We will also explain a bit about the musical structure and poetry of Flamenco and we’ll get to see some clips of great dancers.

This class will prepare you to start Flamenco lessons properly (if you want to!) with some important and handy knowledge or get a taster of this Spanish dance known worldwide.

Who will be teaching?

Tatiana Bistrin has been studying and performing Flamenco for 25 years. She has visited Spain 3 times to learn and immerse herself in flamenco culture. She runs Melbourne Flamenco a school in Fitzroy.
