There is much more to the ukulele than singing and strumming. The ukulele is capable of playing melodies and even playing instrumental solos. Come dip your fingers into beginner melody playing, or advance your current technique.
This class welcomes brand new players and established strummers – all are welcome.
What will we cover?
In this hands-on class you will:
- Learn how to read TABs – the written shorthand that is much easier to learn than sheet music.
- Learn to play simple melodies.
- Learn how to tune the ukulele.

- Pen and paper or your preferred note taking device
- A ukulele!
- Either an electronic tuner or a smart phone with a tuning app (I recommend the Kala Ukulele App. It’s free and useful)

Who will be teaching?
Steph Payne is a level three certified James Hill Ukulele Initiative Teacher and she is a mentor in the ukulele teaching program. Steph teaches ukulele classes online and in-person ensembles – the Wyndukes Ukestra, the Daisy Chains instrumental ukulele quartet. Steph directs three choirs and is one third of Paisley & Plaid folk trio. You can follow her on her website or Facebook.
