What’s it all about?

Come along and learn the basics of watercolour painting through the medium of watercolour flowers!

The flowers you create can look full of colour and vibrance or can be soft and delicate. Give yourself space and time to find the artist in you.

What will we cover?

In the class we will learn:

  • What materials you will need to start watercolour painting
  • The basic techniques of applying wet on wet washes and dry washes
  • How to use the flow of the water to create intriguing designs with flowers
  • How to apply a glaze.

Bring along real flowers, pictures of flowers or photos of simple garden beds you may like to paint. All paper, tape, brushes and paints will be supplied for your use and of course you will be taking home your painting that you can frame and hang in your home or give as a gift.

Who will be teaching?

Joy has been teaching art for 39 years. She has worked with a wide range of art materials such as oils, acrylics, ceramics, metal, jewellery, pastels, charcoal, threads and textiles, and much more. She started learning about watercolour 27 years ago and has been teaching and taking classes ever since – including workshops at the NGV!

Working full-time and raising a family meant that Joy needed a hobby that could do without a lot of mess, that she could come back to and could finish quickly. She has entered her own art work in many exhibitions and is very excited about sharing with you, her knowledge and passion for watercolour.
