What’s it all about?
The tango is a partner dance that developed over the last century in Argentina’s capital city, Buenos Aires.
It is passionate and sexy, but is also a widely popular social dance form. The tango’s popularity continues to grow around the world.
Argentine tango is very different from the tango performed in International and American ballroom dancing. It is an interpretive, improvisational social dance, which allows dancers to develop a deep connection between themselves, the music, and the environment in which they are dancing.
What will we cover?
In this beginners’ class we will learn the basics of the tango, including the embrace, different upper and lower body positions and movements, and giros.
We will learn to improvise a spontaneous dance, which is based on variations of walking, turning, pausing and adornments. These basics will help you work with a dance partner and become a part of a big social environment.
No prior experience is necessary. The class is suitable for reasonably fit people with no serious injuries.
Who will be teaching?
Ash was born to a tango loving family and grew up with tango music. She started dancing at a local tango school in Melbourne and continued her training with world famous teachers in Melbourne, Sydney, Istanbul, Berlin, London, Paris and Buenos Aires. After a 3-month trip to Argentina, she came back to Melbourne to share her knowledge and experience with local dancers and non-dancers alike.
