Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose: Come along and learn how to make your own beautiful rug from upcycled fabric and a series of Amish or toothbrush knots – keeping textile waste out of landfill while learning new skills and starting a project for your home!

Your wonderful teacher Val will have lots of pretty fabrics to choose from but you are also welcome to bring in your own – a lovely way to put sentimental fabrics and old garments to use.

What will we cover?

In this hands-on class you will:

  • Learn and practice how to create an Amish knot
  • Learn where to source and how to select suitable fabric
  • Learn who to best cut and rip fabric yarn
  • Learn to join fabric strips
  • Learn and practice how to start a round rug
  • Learn how to finish off your rug (so you can continue working on your rug at home to achieve your chosen size)

    Who will be teaching? 

    Valerie (she/her) is a passionate crafter and rag rug maker. 

    Her mission is to make use of fabric scraps and re-purpose fabric to avoid fabric going to landfill. 

    Valerie uses a number of rag rug techniques including Amish knot and crochet.
