Making baskets is meditative, easy and fun.
It is one of most well-known crafts in the history of humanity and examples of it appear within lots of cultures – from South Asian, Polynesian, Aboriginal and Mexican.
They were even used within the Industrial Revolution to package up deliveries and to transport pigeon messengers!
They can be made from lots of natural fibres like raffia, wool or fabric.
Basket making is also quite rewarding as there is nothing better than finishing your project and having a lovely item of custom home decor to show off!
What will we cover?
- Go through the basics of basket making:

- How to start off your basket depending on what final shape you want
- How to make a solid base
- How to stack up the coils to make the walls
- Go through different materials you can use such as yarn, fabric, t-shirt yarn, raffia… We’ll have an assortment of materials for you to try. We’ll also go through a few up-cycled options you can use to make your baskets more sustainable.

Who will be Teaching?
Clare MacDonald is all sorts of crafty, specially with up-cycled materials. She has always been an avid sculptor, seamstress and painter. She also teaches the air dry claytastic creations class.
