Come and learn the basics of ink sketching and starting an art sketchbook, a lovely art form creating quick rough sketches while on location, walking around the city or parks. It’s more about the essence of the moment and the fun process than a polished end result. These sketches fill notebooks along with comments and thoughts about the places visited and can become a beautiful memory log of our trips or daily life.
In this class, Emilie will teach you how to get started sketching, even for those who have never picked up a pen! After a couple of quick warm up exercises, Emilie will guide you through a sketch of your choice, sharing advice of mark-making, perspective, shading and tone. You really know sometime once you’ve drawn it, so we’ll focus on observation drawing and enjoying the process of seeing the sketch come to life!

Who will be teaching?
Emilie is a Melbourne based artist and maker, currently finishing her PhD at the Victorian College of the Arts. She moved from France and 2014 and has been developing her art practice since, working with a range of media, from video to printmaking and 3D printing. Emilie is also a comic book artists. Her illustration has been published by the Lifted Brow, and she self-published her first graphic novel in 2018 with Tree Paper Comics in Melbourne.
