What’s it all about?
Ever wanted to learn to make your own silver jewellery? Learn the fundamentals of the wax casting process as well as how to outsource to jewellery businesses in order to create your own unique jewellery pieces.
We will be introduced to the basics of wax working techniques, as well as very simple metal finishing processes in order to be able to create our very own silver rings.
What will we cover?
The class will take place over two weeks. In the first class we will learn:
- What casting is,
- How to outsource to jewellery businesses,
- About different waxes,
- How to make a ring,
- How to clean up and finish cast pieces.
Then in the second week we will take our freshly cast pieces and learn:
- Different tools to use for polishing metal,
- Basic hand finish for silver.
If you would like to polish your silver with power tools like a dremel, please bring a photo of your tools to the first class. We will be able to tell you if this is suitable to be used for metal polish in the second class.
Who will be teaching?
Jenny is a gift shop owner who has been creating her own pieces of jewellery for the past 5-odd years with paper being one of her favourite mediums to work with. Apart from jewellery making, she also has a background in interior design, merchandising and origami.
