What’s it all about?
Coping with life’s stresses isn’t easy – especially at the moment. With most of us missing out on the things that used to keep us centred, it’s more important than ever to check in with yourself. In this workshop, use guided meditation techniques to bring some tranquillity to your daily walk.
Be guided on a calm, reflective journey during your lunchtime exercise in a live workshop, where remote participation allows you to be where you need to and still connect with the community.
What will we cover?
This workshop uses the discipline of psychogeography – conscious psychological reflection of an urban environment – to ground you in your environment while you check in with yourself. In it you will learn techniques to remove yourself from the stresses of your day, take stock of your mind and body, and prepare for a meditative walk.
The class includes guidance on fully experiencing the elements of your surroundings. Participants will be given touchstones to concentrate on, tips for handling distractions and live instruction as they engage in a gentle walk around their area. The class culminates in a short session where students can share their reflections.
Although the workshop is held via Zoom, cameras will be requested switched off to encourage sensory awareness.
What will you need?
- You will need a phone or tablet, ear/head phones, Zoom app (recommend you run a test if you haven’t used it on your device before)
- A space where you can walk without being interrupted. Please note that your environment does not have to be particularly interesting or inspiring: the office stairwell is just as suitable as a sunny park.
Who will be teaching?
Clare Callow is a theatremaker and dramaturg who uses the techniques of physical theatre to encourage sensory engagement. Taking exercises used by actors to warm up their bodies and shed the tensions of the day, Clare crafts immersive experiences that bring participants out of their ordinary world to bring them to be fully present in the moment. She holds a Master of Dramaturgy from the University of Melbourne VCA.
