Music is so prevalent in our lives but not everyone has had the chance to pick up an instrument or ever have lessons. This is no barrier if you’d finally like an introduction to the basic theory and building blocks of music.
Come and get the 101 on music theory from Composer and Vocal Coach Alex – kick off a new hobby or finesse an old one! You’re guaranteed to learn a little more about what the heck all those lines, dots and markings mean on sheet music!
Absolute beginners are absolutely welcome!
What will we cover?
A basic understanding of music theory can provide clarity to people making music at any level.
This interactive class will include:

- Exercises and practical tasks exploring how to read your sheet music
- The chance to ask lots of questions to a composer/vocal coach

Who will be Teaching?
Alex (he/him) completed a Bachelor of Music (Composition) at the University of Western Australia in 2009. He now works as an accomplished composer, arranger and choral director.
Alex is currently Music Director with Geelong Harmony Chorus (Sweet Adelines Australia), Music Director with shOUT Youth Chorus (Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus) as well as Music Director and Producer with Shania Choir.
Performing regularly as Bae Marie, Alex has used queer performance art to developed interactive experiences for children and adults alike.
