This class has passed

If you have always wanted to try your hand at Bush Dyeing than this is the class for you!

Indigenous peoples have been carrying out this practise for thousands of years and then passing on this knowledge.

We are lucky enough to be joined by Kylie – a proud Darug and Wiradjuri First Nations person who is also a certified Nature Based Therapist.

Kylie will guide you as your experiment with different plants to create organic dyes.

You will then have the opportunity to test the dyes on swatches of fabric or bring in a garment to transform within the class!

What will we cover?

In this fun, hands on workshop you will learn:

  • About sustainable ways to collect and forage Native plant material
  • How to safely prepare a Dye Bath specifically for dyeing with Native plants
  • How to pre-mordant for popular garden plants
  • How to care for your pieces afterwards
  • Some useful tips for how to bundle dye and work with different fabrics
  • About the benefits of using Native Plants.

You will then take home your hand dyed garment or fabric swatches.

What will I need to bring

  •  A white or light garment or a piece of fabric from home that you’d like to add some earthy bush tones too. Old sheet or scraps of cotton or even silk, whatever is on hand.
  • If you have access to eucalyptus leaves or garden plants or grasses you can bring it along and experiment
