What’s it all about?

What can you do with a piece of string?

Apart from entertain your cat you can make cute bags to fill any purpose – from jazzing up bottles to use as hanging (or non-hanging) vases to making a new shopping bag to take to the market.

What will we cover?

We’ll be knotting a string bag around a bottle and filling it with flowers so that it can be hung from a hook, tied to a post or placed anywhere else you want a bit of colour.

The skills we’ll learn can be easily adapted to make bags of any size and shape so you can make your own shopping bags or nets at home.

This simple, free-form craft doesn’t require any special equipment and there will be no more “I’ve lost my crochet hook and can’t make anything.” or “I hate knitting on the train because the person next to me gets in the way of my elbows.” once you’re done!

Materials will be provided, but if you have a particular, small bottle that you would like to use then bring it along.

Who will be teaching?

Laura SmithLaura’s grandma taught her to knit a million years ago. Since moving on from knitting scarves in pink wool she’s taken the traditional skill to strange and wonderful places, including knitted woollen beards, knitting metal chainmaille jewellery and now knotting string bags on boats!
