What’s it all about?
The hills are alive with the sound of music so step in time along the yellow brick road, wash that man right out of your hair and do the time warp again. We’re on a mission from God, we’re going to live forever and grease is the word. Anything goes so get your gun or it’s bye, bye birdie. We’re taking a look at Movie Musicals and if this lecture doesn’t get your toes tapping nothing will!
What will we cover?
We will be looking at the classic movie musicals over the last few decades. How did they make the transition from stage to screen and what elements constitute a successful musical? We will look at theme, plot, characters, setting and of course, the music and lyrics! Using choice clips and stills, we will look at films such as Oklahoma, South Pacific, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Blues Brothers, Chicago, Hairspray and more.
Bring your best singing voice and register below, the ouverture is about to start!
Who will be teaching?
Hugh Gundlach has lectured in marketing for The University of Melbourne and RMIT. He is a regular public speaker at marketing events and also reviews comedy for The Pun. He can’t play an instrument but enjoys singing both parts of a duet when no one else is around to listen.
