What’s it all about?
In this class, you will use one technique of composing found poems called ‘cut up’ and create your own poetry that connects with you on a personal level. We are not after rhyme or reason, but after personal meaning, capturing emotions, describing our experiences and having some fun with words.
What we will cover?
Conny will introduce you to her lockdown project ‘Collage of Calm’ and share a process of creating found poetry as a way to check in with yourself and engage in creative play to loosen your brain and body. This process of reflection and play is a great way to start or finish your days. We’ll be using cut out words from magazine pages or old books and play with different combinations to create poems and new meaning relevant to our lives right now.
Depending on time and your pace of working you might create a couple of poems, each a reflection of different aspects, observations or emotions in your life right now.
At the end, we there’s an invitation to read out some poems as a way to connect virtually and share our experiences.
Who will you need?
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Words: magazines, newspapers, old books you’re happy to cut up, advertising/ brochures/ catalogues/ packaging (no need to cut up prior to class, this will be part of our process. Just have materials ready)
- To stick them down you can use one of the following: simple paper, index cards, a journal if you use one, small pieces of cardstock or images/ pages from magazines.
