How well do you know the marine life in our own beautiful blue backyard? The Great Southern Reef spans the whole southern part of Australia and is home to species and natural spectacles that happen nowhere else in the world!

Most of us know little about this hidden treasure, and don’t realise how precious and unique our marine ecosystems are – from vibrant sea dragons, playful marine mammals, colourful sea slugs, cuttlefishes coming together in their thousands to mate and spider crabs forming huge underwater piles and everything in between!

This is your chance to take a guided (online) tour of Australia’s Great Southern Reef with Elodie and her own mesmerising underwater photography.

What will we cover?

In this session you will:

  • Be introduced to the Great Southern Reef – an important marine ecosystem in Victoria and beyond.
  • Learn about its different plants and animals (mammals, sea slugs, cuttlefish and more!)
  • Learn about the hidden lives of spider crabs and their iconic aggregations, which take place every winter in the heart of Port Phillip Bay.
  • Find out how scientists go about solving ocean mysteries, and how you can help!
