What’s it all about?
Kantha sewing originated from the West Bengal region of India and is now popular all over the world. Kantha is the simplest of sewing techniques which provides a lot of scope for exploration, imagination and expression.
This form of quilting comes from rural India, where resources were few, but imagination and skills were in abundance! So come along and give it a go!
You will learn and explore new ways of using fabric scraps combined with embroidery to make your own composition. It’s a technique you can use the play around with your old clothing, with fabrics that you love, giving them a new life as a cushion cover, quilt or a new piece of clothing!
We will provide hand block printed fabrics and embroidery threads to create a fabric composition which can be converted into a purse, applique, centre piece of a quilt or framed to hang on the wall.
This class doesn’t require any sewing experience.
All tools and materials will be provided. But if you have any fabric scraps of your own that you’d like to use please bring them along.

Who will be teaching?
Manjari (she/her) is a trained Fashion Designer with vast experience in Indian textiles and embroideries. After working in the
Fashion industry for over a decade, she has been running her own handmade children’s clothing label, Bubble For Poppet, for the past eight years.
