Want to craft your musings, insights and feelings into lyrics that connect with people? What to be able to write songs that share your life? Want to be able to pinpoint an experience that resonates and captivates people?

Come along to this online workshop and learn some techniques and tips to turn your ideas into lyrics. Leave with more confidence to get started, or renewed inspiration to keep on going. 

This class is suitable for beginners. No lyrical experience is necessary. Enthusiasm and interest in lyrics, music or storytelling helps!

What will we cover?

Half interactive and half tips and tricks, in this practical class Johanna will take you on a very quick route to finding the words behind the music

  • Learn basic techniques for writing stories and lyrics

  • Follow some prompts and exercises to magnify the impact of your words 

  • Try out techniques with your own writing, or with a prompt 

  • Utilise your existing preferences and experiences for writing

Who will be teaching? 

Johanna (she/they) is a singer songwriter who loves making music that says something to the world. She believes everyone has a song in them and that’s worth sharing!

Johanna is the author of two books (one poetry and one prose) and came to music late in life. She was a Featured Artist in The National Campus Music Competition jn 2022, previously won by Jebediah, Eskimo Joe, Spiderbait,  Frenzal Rhomb, Ball Park Music and Spacey Jane. She was shortlisted for a Nillumbik Prize for Creative Writing in 2020. Her work has been described as “Reminiscent of Hemingway and Rousseau”.
